The Master concluded his year in the magnificent surroundings of Fishmongers Hall where 130 Guild members and their guests enjoyed a delightful reception and dinner. Guests were the Guild's Chaplain, the Very Revd Dr David Ison, Dean of St Paul's and his wife the Revd Hilary and the Master's very dear friands Sir David Brewer KG CMG CVO, and his wife Lady (Tessa) Brewer OBE.
After dinner a jazz quartet of piano, drums, double bass and singer from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama entertained diners with several well-known songs including “Nice Work if you can get it”, “I get a kick out of you” and a moving performance from Bernstein’s West Side Story, “Somewhere: A Place for Us”. Fishmongers’ was certainly the right place to be on this evening.
In his speech the Master thanked all present, and all members of the Guild, for the tremendous support he had been given during his year. In reply Sir David thanked the Master for all the many years of service he had given to many city associations and especially the London Borough of Newham where the Master was “born and bred”, and where he still serves as the Deputy Lieutenant.
The Master presented Sir David with a copy of the Guild's history and wished everyone a safe journey home.
