Please note that Freedom of the City is only granted by the City of London, which is separate from the Guild of Freemen.

If you want to find out more about your ancestors connected with the Freedom of the City, or simply learn more about your past, email the London Archives  at
ask@tla.libanswers.com. They may be able to help with historical records held by the Corporation. Our own records of Guild members date from only 1942 and regretfully we are unable to help with any enquiries about people who were granted the Freedom  of the City.

FRAMES FOR FREEDOM CERTIFICATES

All Freedom matters are dealt with by the Chamberlain’s Court. The Clerk to the Chamberlain’s Court has frames available, they cost £30. They don’t normally post them because of the glass content. You can email the Court at  court.assistant@cityoflondon.gov.uk to make an appointment to collect.

""The Guild was formed in 1908 for all fellow Freemen of the City of London – today we number almost 1,600 members from all backgrounds, and from a wide range of professions. In addition, our Annual Programme is the City’s most extensive. It features events with privileged access for Members and their guests, ranging from opportunities to dine in London’s finest Livery Halls, to less formal activities. Our Annual Banquet is a highlight of the Guild’s calendar and attracts members from all over the world.
