Can you tell me about my ancestor who was a Freeman?

Please note that Freedom of the City is only granted by the City of London, which is separate from the Guild of Freemen. If you want to find out more about your ancestors connected with the Freedom of the City, or simply learn more about your past, email the London Archives at ask@tla.libanswers.com They may be able to help with historical records held by the Corporation. Our own records of Guild members date from only 1942.

""The Guild was formed in 1908 for all fellow Freemen of the City of London – today we number almost 1,600 members from all backgrounds, and from a wide range of professions. In addition, our Annual Programme is the City’s most extensive. It features events with privileged access for Members and their guests, ranging from opportunities to dine in London’s finest Livery Halls, to less formal activities. Our Annual Banquet is a highlight of the Guild’s calendar and attracts members from all over the world.
