The Master would like to congratulate Christine Cox who has been awarded an MBE for outstanding services to organ donation and the community.
Christine started her campaigning alongside her mother Rosemary (also a Guild member), in memory of her brother, Peter, who died in 1989. Peter, 24, had told his family about his wish to donate organs before his death from a brain tumour but the family were surprised to find there was no register for potential donors.
This led the family to take on a five-year campaign before the introduction of the first nationwide NHS Organ Donor Register in 1994, and a lifelong mission to increase awareness of organ donation, which also paved the way for England’s move to the opt out system in May 2020.
""The Guild was formed in 1908 for all fellow Freemen of the City of London – today we number almost 1,600 members from all backgrounds, and from a wide range of professions. In addition, our Annual Programme is the City’s most extensive. It features events with privileged access for Members and their guests, ranging from opportunities to dine in London’s finest Livery Halls, to less formal activities. Our Annual Banquet is a highlight of the Guild’s calendar and attracts members from all over the world.
