Lunch at the Master's Home and Opera at Saffron Hall

Sunday 15th September 2019

Start: 12 noon | Finish: 8.30 pm

This event has passed

The Master and his wife Emma have great pleasure in welcoming the Guild to their home in Radwinter, near Saffron Walden, Essex.  There was such a huge interest in the event in June he and Emma have kindly agreed to host a similar event on September 15th. After an informal lunch at the Master's home we head off to the award-winning Saffron Hall for an afternoon of opera - a performance of Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde. This is one of Saffron Opera Group’s acclaimed series of Wagner performances. The superb SOG orchestra under Michael Thorne (‘warm and fluent… great sweep and momentum’ Opera) is joined by a cast of exciting young talents and established international stars, including Saffron Hall favourite Elaine McKrill as the adulterous Isolde and veteran Wagnerian Richard Wiegold as her deceived husband. Young British Heldentenor Jonathan Stoughton, hugely admired as Siegfried in both SOG’s Siegfried and Götterdämmerung, promises to set spines tingling in Wagner’s most challenging and thrilling tenor role. ‘A remarkable concert performance… superb’ (The Telegraph on Parsifal)

The Master will leave it to members to make their own travel arrangements to the house by car (parking is available) or by train to Audley End station. A coach will be provided to take those travelling by train to the Hall and back to the station.

If there is engineering work an optional coach will be provided from Guildhall. Transfers from the station to the Master’s house can be arranged.
