Guild Holiday to Tuscany

Tuesday 5th September 2023 - Saturday 9th September 2023

This event has passed

The trip will be based in the hilltop town of Montalcino which is set within the fortified walls of the town’s castle.  Sadly, being a hilltop town, this trip is not suitable for those with mobility difficulties.  The streets are uneven and there are a significant number of steep steps.  Neither the Hotel nor its neighbouring rooms have a lift facility.
The town has scarcely changed in appearance since the 16th century.  After visiting Montalcino for 27 years, the Master and his consort will be showing you the town and locality in a way that no other group tour can do.
The visit includes three wine tastings, including visits to two wine estates: the town and the locale are renowned all over the world for the production of Brunello red wine.  Local Tuscan cuisine, with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal ingredients such as wild boar, rabbit, guinea fowl, duck, veal, pork and local hams and cheeses will also feature.  There will be excursions to Sienna where we will visit the world-famous Duomo, the site of the Palio horse race and the HQ of the stables, and also a trip to the charming and enchanting La Foce gardens.  An afternoon has been set aside for individual activities such as cooking, e-cycling or truffle hunting (or just relax and explore the many artisanal craft shops and / or the town’s museum).

We will stay at the delightful family run Il Giglio hotel and rooms. The exact price of the holiday depends on if you are staying in the Hotel or nearby (1 minute walk from the Hotel) rooms and places will be allocated in order of receipt of bookings.

You will arrange your own flights and we will advise you of options, if travelling on the ‘group’ flight, transfer from and to Bologna is arranged at an approximate additional cost of £100 per person. One dinner and one lunch are at your own cost, otherwise all meals, visits, wine tastings are included in the price as are gratuities.

There are only 4 single rooms available, which cost slightly less than a double, so additional singles will have to pay the double room price. A non-refundable deposit of £150 per person is payable at the time of booking.  The deposit will only be refunded if we are able to sell your place on to another member(s) if you withdraw.

Please ensure you have travel insurance.

Places will be allocated on receipt of application and the cost is £865 or £1040 per person, plus £100 for transfer is applicable, as it depends on your flights - the cost of which are not included.  Email the Clerk, Kate for further information.
