Dinner at Ironmongers' Hall

Ironmongers’ Hall is the setting for the First Dinner of Master, Alderman John Garbutt JP, FRSA, FRGS, FCSI.

The present Hall, home to the tenth of the Great Twelve Livery Companies of the City, was opened on 17th June 1925.

The Tudor style of the new Hall was decided upon, not only because it seemed appropriate for the housing of an ancient guild, but also because it recalled the Golden Age of Craftsmanship. The Hall had a remarkable escape in December 1940, when a German air raid set fire to all the adjacent buildings, which were destroyed. The heat melted lead pipes and glass in the windows but luckily the rest survived.

The evening will start with a sparkling reception after which we will be served a fabulous three-course dinner with wine, followed by port, toasts and speeches. The Master's guest speaker is Sir Ken Olisa OBE CStJ FRSA FBCS, Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, who is sure to give fascinating insights into the Lieutenancy.

This event follows our welcome ceremony for new members, who may wish to continue their celebrations at this lovely venue.

""The Guild was formed in 1908 for all fellow Freemen of the City of London – today we number almost 1,600 members from all backgrounds, and from a wide range of professions. In addition, our Annual Programme is the City’s most extensive. It features events with privileged access for Members and their guests, ranging from opportunities to dine in London’s finest Livery Halls, to less formal activities. Our Annual Banquet is a highlight of the Guild’s calendar and attracts members from all over the world.
