Carol Service

Tuesday 12th December 2023

Start: 6:30pm | Finish: 8:30pm

Following the success of the Service last year, the Master has chosen St Stephen Walbrook, the Lord Mayor's and Sir Christopher Wren's Parish church, for the Guild's carol service again this year. The original church dates back to the 11th century. The church of today is one of Sir Christopher Wren’s masterpieces, built in 1674 and was his prototype for the dome of St Paul’s Cathedral. It was the first classical dome to be built in England at that time. The church features the magnificent round altar table sculpted by Sir Henry Moore. This place was designed for people to gather as a community around the altar where God could be found at the centre.

The Samaritans were originally founded here, and in 2006 the London Internet Church was established at St Stephen. As the Parish church of the Lord Mayor, who lives “next door” at Mansion House during his year of office, it now holds an annual thanksgiving service for the outgoing Lord Mayor. The incoming Lord Mayor is appointed an Honorary Churchwarden.

Wine and canapes will be served in the church after the Service.
