Smithfield Market & La Cucina Restaurant Tour & Breakfast

4 June 2008

Guild members and their guests assembled in the Smithfield Market Tennants' Association offices at 5.30am, where an introductory talk was given by Mr Robert Wilson, the Market's Superintendent. The party was divided into 3 groups, everyone had to put on protective clothing of white coats and hard hats before starting the tour.

Deputy Pauline Halliday met The Centenary Master, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, at 6.30am in East Poultry Avenue when the Princess Royal joined Group 3.

The fascinating tour included being shown where the carcasses were hung, the temperature controls, and the butchering of a lamb carcass, all housed in the magnificent refurbished Victorian listed building.

After the tours had been completed The Princess Royal joined the Guild for refreshments at La Cucina Restaurant in Cowcross Street, where later a delicious full English breakfast was served.
