Christmas Carol Service at the Church of St Martin-within-Ludgate
6 December 2007
The Guild held its annual Carol Service on Thursday 6th December 2007 at the church of St Martin-within-Ludgate.
As in the past four years, the Headmaster of The City of London Freemen's School kindly allowed the school choir to lead the singing during the evening. To complete the school's contribution to the occasion, the school's Director of Music played the organ and two trumpeters from the school's orchestra added wonderfully to the musical accompaniment to the carols.
The Service was a truly joyous occasion with a full church, angelic singing from the choir and excellent readings, including one from Guild Member the Reverend Esther McCafferty. The congregation raised the roof when it was their turn to sing and seemed to especially enjoy the calypso carol 'See Him Lying on a Bed of Straw'.
At the end of the Service a cheque was presented to Mr Philip MacDonald, Headmaster of The City of London Freemen's School, in appreciation of their support, and then everyone stayed on for a glass of wine, snacks and mince pies.
